Our mission
More space in the city. This has been our most important corporate goal since the company was founded. Our solution: Your car on demand just around the corner. Car sharing à la cambio creates space for a better standard of living in the city.
And it works: Every single cambio car replaces many private cars. And while a private car still stays unused for an average of 23 hours a day, a cambio car is on the road for six to eight hours.
Our figures
With over 200,000 cambio customers and a fleet of more than 5.000 cars in 49 German and 107 Belgian cities, cambio is one of the largest independent car sharing providers. At the end of 2023, the company had 132.000 customers in Germany, an increase of almost 12% compared to the previous year.
Living community
cambio stands for an open society that gives people the opportunity to develop their potential. We speak out clearly against right-wing propaganda and in favor of democracy and a society based on solidarity. The cambio Group is mainly owned by customers and employees. Currently, cambio has 270 employees nationwide.
Excellent CarSharing
Car sharing is part of a modern mobility mix. When selecting vehicles, we focus in particular on low-emission vehicles; e-cars run on electricity from renewable energy sources. For this environmentally friendly transport service, cambio has been awarded with the "Blauer Engel".
25% of our customers also use cambio for work. More than 1.550 companies and public authorities currently use cambio.
Our history
The company's origins go back to the environmental movement. In 1990 and 1992, committed people in Aachen, Bremen and Cologne started the shared use of cars. The constantly growing number of customers led to increasing professionalization in the 1990s. In March 2000, the previously independent CarSharing companies from Aachen, Bremen and Cologne joined forces and founded the cambio Group. Together, they were able to improve the service and expand it to other cities.
2021
cambio launches its service in Düsseldorf, the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Kappeln in Schleswig-Holstein. In the area around Erftstadt that was affected by the floods, a CarSharing service is launched in several communes in cooperation with stadtmobil.
In the meantime, 150.000 people in Germany and Belgium have signed up for cambio.
